Manipulating, Deforming and Animating Sampled Object Representations

چکیده
A sampled object representation (SOR) defines a graphical model using data obtained from a sampling process, which takes a collection of samples at discrete positions in space in order to capture certain geometrical and physical properties of one or more objects of interest. Examples of SORs include images, videos, volume datasets and point datasets. Unlike many commonly used data representations in computer graphics, SORs lack in geometrical, topological and semantic information, which is much needed for controlling deformation and animation. Hence it poses a significant scientific and technical challenge to develop deformation and animation methods that operate upon SORs. Such methods can enable computer graphics and computer animation to benefit enormously from the advances of digital imaging technology. In this state of the art report, we survey a wide range of techniques that have been developed for manipulating, deforming and animating SORs. We consider a collection of elementary operations for manipulating SORs, which can serve as building blocks of deformation and animation techniques. We examine a collection of techniques that are designed to transform the geometry shape of deformable objects in sampled representations and pay particular attention to their deployment in surgical simulation. We review a collection of techniques for animating digital characters in SORs, focusing on recent developments in volume animation.

متن کاملReal-time sound synthesis for paper material based on geometric analysis
In this article, we present the first method to generate plausible sounds while animating crumpling virtual paper in real time. Our method handles shape-dependent friction and crumpling sounds which typically occur when manipulating or creasing paper by hand. Based on a run-time geometric analysis of the deforming surface, we identify resonating regions characterizing the sound being produced. ...
متن کاملFree-form design using axial curve-pairs
Deformation of 3D shapes usually requires the use of a deformation tool. The freeform deformation technique requires the use of a lattice of control point for deforming an object. This may require a synchronized movement of the lattice control points in order to obtain the desired effects. The axial deformation technique allows an object to be deformed by manipulating an axial curve. However, u...
متن کاملExecutive Summary Report Ter: Animating Ultra-complex Voxel Scenes through Shell Deformation
Voxel representations have many advantages, such as ordered traversal during rendering and trivial very decent LOD through MIPmap. Special effect companies such Digital Domain or Rhythm&Hues now extensively use voxels engines, for semi-transparent objects such as clouds, avalanches, tornado or explosions, but also for complex solid objects. Several gaming companies are also looking into voxel e...
متن کاملAGRELs and BIPs: Metamorphosis as a Bézier Curve in the Space of Polyhedra
The metamorphosis between two user-specified objects offers an intuitive metaphor for designing animations of deforming shapes. We present a new technique for interactively editing such deformations and for animating them in realtime. Besides the starting and ending shapes, our approach offers easy to use additional control over the deformations. The new Bezier Interpolating Polyhedron (BIP) pr...
